10 minutes of hand-cranking the mill…that's an improvement...

It's so inspiring to know that one person can grow all the food they need for the winter. But the work that takes -- simply mindboggling. I just go to the store, and I never seriously considered an alternative... You're planting seeds in your readers' minds as well 😉. And thank you for this uplifting video from Japan.

hi! just curious: how do spinach and leek do under snow? i thought they would be sad and end up all wilted from the freezing temperatures... not the case? thanks!

The leeks aren't all that happy, they kidna get destroyed not with the freezing, but with the thawing. I'm going to be eating a lot of leek this week!

Many things don't care so much - the spinach will be doing fine, broad beans are totally ok with it, and the winter wheat is going to enjoy a couple of days of sunshine this week before it gets covered again!

That's an awe inspiring amount of work you've done Ben, to produce all that food. I watched the video and was blown away by the concept of getting people out of care homes , making them feel valued and stimulating their minds with human contact. A very positive start to a grey, damp Monday morning! Thanks. Have a good week. P.S. are you on Mastodon? I'm coming off of Twitter.

I know, right? What surprised me most was the value and importance of paying them their wages. Of course, you're going to do this anyway, but realising that this itself was such a validating action which they treasured. (It's not about the money!)

I'm not on Mastodon. Replacing Twitter / X with a less useful version of it doesn't seem to have any value other than feeding the addiction to me

Mastodon is less toxic. I couldn't stand X any more. Same people, same ideas ... Lots of abuse.

The German for ‘I appreciate it’ reminds me of how the French say ‘I miss you’, which actually translates to ‘you are missing from me’ 😌
