soooo.... I don't have a calcium problem with the soil :)
But also, the ultimate aim will be to grow their food as well. And if they need calcium, I need to grow plants which can take up calcium from the rocks deep under the ground. So, nettles and comfrey for example. Which I could just grow and chuck on the compost, solving any calcium problems. Sending it through a chicken first doesn't make for better calcium :)
There's a nice, cheerful message to wake up to on a Monday morning! Hope the piggies ate the food. I could do with one of those shredders myself! I'm busy with potting up tomato sauces and am going to try tomatoes in olive oil too. There's a lot to eat in the garden but we need to get eating, potting and freezing before the frosts come.
How's it going with those pumpkins? Have you harvested the oil pumpkins yet...or worked out the oil-making process? And...how's the mill working out?
Happy Birthday!
Thank you Rachel! x
Will those elderly chickens solve the soil calcium problem with any odd eggshells they manage to lay?

I'm glad to hear you've got plenty of calcium! I wondered how it got into chickens in the first place 🐔
Hi Ben,
There's a nice, cheerful message to wake up to on a Monday morning! Hope the piggies ate the food. I could do with one of those shredders myself! I'm busy with potting up tomato sauces and am going to try tomatoes in olive oil too. There's a lot to eat in the garden but we need to get eating, potting and freezing before the frosts come.
Take care. x
Thank you Sara! They are a bit sceptical, but I think they might get used to it.
