Hi Ben, sorry I didn't make it to the chat online last week ... I was in my garden! That last question has always been in my head. I still know people, including my brother (who now refuses to speak to me) and others in my family, who think that climate change is bollocks. There are are millions of them out there. The same people deny that COVID existed, think that Bill Gates wants to kill people (the poor man has put his money into practically wiping out polio!) and believe what any batshit crazy, born again, or new age journalist writes about 'science'. I despair!

In the garden is a far better place to be to be than listening to me droning on about one.

I have a little sympathy with Covid skeptics - especially in the UK. It looks like it probably was made by humans and leaked from a lab. The political "leaders" were absolutely the least trustworthy, and least capable of dealing with something serious, and although vaccines are safe, a great idea, and to be recommended, mRNA was a new and different sort of a beast. It's not "wrong" to say that it was "unproven", but that is misleading and illiterate as all heck. Lots of things around the pandemic appeared a little sketchy, there were misleading and incorrect statements from those in charge, and it was all poorly dealt with. However, Covid was a real thing, killed a lot of people, and the vaccine was good.

The problem of trust, though, might be unfixable in any reasonable amount of time.

No-one only believes one conspiracy theory, and when one comes along which is (wrong but) reasonably suspicious, it does make the rest of them seem more plausible (to a certain mindset).

Bill Gates does not want to kill people or control them with invisible chips in vaccines. We landed humans on the moon in 1969 (and 1971 and 1972) and the Chinese will be doing it again soon. The world is a globe.

Climate change is real, and existential and does not care if you believe in it or not

Birds, on the other hand. They are definitely NOT real.

Why birds?

Oh, it's an internet thing, poking fun at conspiracy theories. Just google "birds aren't real" for some fun :)

I have only just noticed that "conspiracy" has "piracy" in it! Arrr!
