So you planted a seed six years ago, and it eventually turned into what you imagined - give or take a branch or two. Well done - there's nothing silly about that!
Strictly speaking, the seed has been slowly germinating underground for around 40 years or more. We have a way to go, but with the help and support of so many people like yourself, we are definitely going to get... "there". Or at least, somewhere interesting :)
Hi Ben. They call this 'Blue Monday' (so I just heard on Radio 4, before turning off a gloating simpering Orange Donald) and for good reason. I think I've been blue with the cold since I came home! Just one question, with what do you treat the wood to potect and preserve it? The stuff I buy for shutters etc. is very expensive.
Great question, Sara. I'm not sure just yet. Creosote is easy enough to make yourself. I mean, it's a fairly horrible and disgusting day of sweat and toil, but it shouldn't be without the real of the barracks capabilities. For things going into the ground (which would be larch anyway), I tend to char them first. The thing about the tomato house is, I am using "free" wood. It's worse quality than firewood. I think expecting it to last 40 years would be a waste of time anyway. And I should be long dead by then. The younger, fitter next generation barracksers can figure that one out :)
Glad the sun broke through!
Me too!

Happy 6th Barracks Birthday!
Hadn’t realised that about solar in colder climes - you’re heading a small way towards superconductor territory as you go below 0.
hah... awesome. Next year, barracks quantum computing!
