I’ve learned a lot about what it means to be the barracks this year. Much in the garden has gone wrong, and I’m so determined to learn from it that next year can only be amazing, right?
I was so keen to increase the growing areas, I let some other things slide. That said, if the piggies are going to be fed next year, the increase must continue. So the big job for the week is to get Tony, Brunny and Marilyn over to the “pig field” for ploughing work. As we have learned this year, nothing keeps them in a space other than electricity, so I have to build a new electric fence and get that in the ground.
That means, the job list for the coming week looks a bit like this:
Make fence posts
Stick them in the ground and hang the electric wires
Clear the beans (plots 3 and 4)
Rake over plot 6 and sow with winter green manure
Tidy the loft office
Clean the wood-burning oven. This is a bigger job than you might think
And, seeing as we are down to night time temperatures below zero about couple of times a week, and daylight time falling rapidly, I think that that will be enough for this week.
Feeding piggies and myself, mowing, chopping wood, the Things Which Must Be Done all get slipped in every damn day when I can as well, of course.
