This week was dominated by the Special Projects. Or at least, the preparations for them.
I got to start scraping the old paint of walls in the en-suite, and I completely cleared the area for Potters Corner, discovering all manner of hidden gems. Twisted pieces of metal from unidentifiable military machinery, an old dog collar and, surprisingly, an inspection pit cover.
One day, I should probably try to determine the underground system of pipes and drainage - there are something like 20 inspection pits - but maybe that can be some summer spelunking. I have a pretty good idea of what they do - diverting rainwater water from the rooves and streams through the forest. I don’t need to get in them just yet. But it might be a Fun Thing To Do at some point.
This week, there is supposed to be just one project.
Finally, three months after I ordered them, the parts for the loft kitchen stove chimney arrived. German efficiency is a lie which even the Germans don’t believe in, but it amuses them to let other people think it might be true.
However, I reckon it’s going to take the best part of a week up a ladder to drill a massive hole through 50cm of solid Soviet barracks wall, and that doesn’t sound much fun in the best of times. In actual snow, even less amusing. So the job list for this week looks like this:
Assemble chimney. Hopefully
Potter around with the en-suite project
In good news, this newsletter now has 90 subs (a HUGE thank you to my 5 fully paid up subscribers. You are the truly awesome) - but exciting, the last three who signed up are people who I do not know. I have actual strangers on here. This is mindblowing and lovely. Welcome to you all!
Please do share with other people. it’s a silly thing, but it really does help get through the winter!
