Hello Pirate,

I loved the way you describe the benefits of serendipity in finding random books because you need something to read at various points. I had never really considered that, but might well try it to see how I get on.

Meanwhile, one book (actually a series) I've been reading lately is "On The Calculation Of Volume" by Solvej Balle. I'm up to book 4 though I believe there might be as many as 8 in total.

It's a simple premise - a woman wakes up and realises she is repeating yesterday, or rather, yesterday is repeating.... on repeat. She is stuck in 11th November. She can do different things, but everybody else is continously living that day....

Sounds boring, but is actually weirdly fascinating. Highly recommended.

The book I'm reading now is "Daunderlust" by Peter Ross. A collection of his bizarre and banal experiences as a journalist in Scotland, where to daunder is a combination of a stroll or an aimless wander, hence the desire to go walkabout = daunderlust. Often very funny, sometimes poignant but nearly always educational for me about my home nation. Again, highly recommended.

You mentioned the gooseberry drying in the last newsletter. 🙃

I‘m about to read „Die Wut, die bleibt“.

And have just finished „Das Geschenk des Meeres“, unfortunately a German translation of a book by an English author. It was a good read, but nothing substantial. The word Belletristik fits nicely (isn’t that such a good word anyway?)
