This week at the barracks, we were treated to multiple days of above-freezing temperatures. That is, days where it wasn’t below zero all day! The snow never quite disappeared. It came close a couple of times, and once it even rained instead of snowed. But only for a little bit. It went back to snowing again right after.
And on days like these, we decamp to the wood shop.
I’ve been talking about that painting table for a while. This week, I found out that it isn’t needed until the start of March. Which is nice. It means I can try to do it really nicely. Or at least, with a little more care and attention than my usual bodging.
Care and attention at least can maybe substitute for craftsmanship and skill for now.
I also, and this was a bodge, made a house for the compost toilet. Enjoy the photo, and see if you can spot the 90-degree angles. Don’t spend too much time looking for them, though, there is genuinely not one on the entire construction.
The next step is to put a roof on it. The outhouse is now fully functional, just a little free and open to the elements. And as I was sitting there recently, I realised that an outdoor toilet needs a glass roof so that you can marvel at the heavens whilst having a night-time movement. Glorious, or what? Naturally, I’ve not made the walls strong enough to support a glass roof, but seeing as I have had the idea, I now have to put it into practice, and so, have successfully made a considerable amount of extra work for myself. Ahh, one day I shall learn to plan a project in advance …
This week, we shall be mostly:
Kitchen. For sure. Definitely this time.
Considering a glass roof for the outhouse
I want to secure another 100m of perimeter fence. So this.
Back on the wood chopping!
In other news, the vineyard got cancelled. This came as something of a shock, and I’m a bit upset about it. A blog post will follow.
Until next week (or elsewhere on the socials), be excellent to each other (like and share!)
Hugs and love,
The Pirate Ben
I'm liking the look of those shelf legs. I'm wondering how you made those grooves for the shelves to sit in. Do you have a router? Or was it a saw+chisel combination?
Sorry about the vineyard :/
